Progress was made in 2012 in protecting children in areas of armed conflict, says the UN Secretary-General’s annual report on the subject.

However, while boys and girls had better protection from the effects of armed conflict, new and on-going crises continue to have a devastating effect on children, says Leila Zerrougui, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict.
