At a UN forum in Geneva this week, they called for countries to implement a strategy aimed at keeping children safe before, during and after disasters.

The Children’s Charter for Disaster Risk Reduction covers five areas which children feel are important, such as safer schools, better urban planning and increased child participation in conversations on disasters.

But it also calls for greater outreach to vulnerable children, such as those with disabilities and children who live on the streets.

Patrick Maigua, spoke to 21-year-old Marita Haug, a member of the Norwegian Children and Youth Council, who is working to make the charter a priority.
