The United Nations humanitarian agency (OCHA) is concerned about thousands of people in Myanmar’s Rakhine State as a tropical storm is expected to make a landfall on Thursday.

Cyclone Mahasen, which has been moving across the Indian Ocean toward India, Bangladesh and Myanmar, began hitting the coast of Bangladesh with heavy rain on Thursday.

There are reports that at least four people have died and authorities in Bangladesh relocated hundreds of thousands of vulnerable people to safer ground before the arrival of the storm.

To find out more about this, UN Radio’s Donn Bobb spoke on the line to Bangkok, Thailand with Kirsten Mildren, spokesperson for OCHA’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific.
