The UN and its partners in Guinea-Bissau are working to support negotiations for elections tentatively set for November, according to the top UN envoy in the country, Jose Ramos-Horta.

Guinea-Bissau experienced a military coup a year ago, resulting in its suspension from the African Union, and he says the country will have to have a more inclusive government if it is to be readmitted to the organization.

Ramos-Horta on Thursday briefed the Security Council on UN efforts in Guinea-Bissau alongside partners such as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), the African Union and the European Union (EU).
