The issue of peaceful resolution of conflicts in Africa was under the spotlight in the General Assembly on Thursday.

The debate took place a month before African leaders gather in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Organization of African Unity and its successor, the African Union.

As UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told the General Assembly, that meeting will be a time for reflection and pride in considerable achievement on the continent.

Gerry Adams reports.
