Over 30,000 people from the Central African Republic have crossed into the Democratic Republic of the Congo to escape fighting in their country, according to the UN refugee agency (UNHCR).

Armed rebels in the Central African Republic seized power in the capital Bangui last month and there are continuing reports of human rights abuses.

The head of UNHCR, Antonio Guterres, who visited the DR Congo, recently, says despite their own difficulties, the Congolese people have opened their hearts to the refugees from the Central African Republic.
