United Nations officials are concerned about the deteriorating security situation in the Central African Republic since the Séléka rebels seized power more than three weeks ago.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has strongly condemned the violence perpetrated by the rebels against civilians.

He is urging the de facto authorities to restore law and order throughout the country and to ensure the protection of civilians.
