Stunting, which is low height for age and the underdevelopment of the brain of a child, is linked to malnutrition says the UN children’s agency (UNICEF) in a report launched on Monday.

The agency says nutrition is important during the critical 1,000-day period covering pregnancy and the first two years of a child’s life.

According to UNICEF, 80 per cent of stunted children are mostly in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.

UNICEF’s Sarah Crowe discusses the report on stunting with the agency’s Chief of Nutrition, Werner Schultink.
