The largest tropical rainforest on the planet is the Amazon with some seven million square kilometers stretched across nine countries in South America: Bolivia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Suriname, Guyana, French Guiana and Brazil.

Approximately 60% of the Amazon forest is in Brazil.

Paulino Franco De Caravalho Neto who deals with the environment at the Brazilian Ministry of External Relations is attending the UN Conference on forests underway in Istanbul, Turkey.

UN Radio’s May Yaacoub caught up with Mr. Neto to find out what his government is doing to promote sustainable forest management.
