Africa is on target in improving the lives of slum dwellers by the year 2015, according to Amina Mohammed, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advisor on Post-2015 Development Goals.

However, she adds, the fact that there are still many more people in slums than there were in 2000 means more work still needs to be done to tackle the root causes of the problem.

She notes that there are just about 1,000 days left before 2015, the deadline for achieving the Millennium Development Goals of eradicating extreme poverty.

Irene Mwakesi of the UN Information Centre in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, spoke to Amina Mohammed as the Governing Council of UN-Habitat began its 24th session.
