The stunning coastline of Davao Oriental in the southern part of the Philippines used to be a hidden treasure for adventurous travellers and surfers alike until Typhoon Bopha, or Pablo as it was locally known, struck this area in December last year, affecting the lives of 6.2 million people.

Typhoon Bopha ravaged the Philippines and killed over a thousand people and displaced at least 800,000.

Several months after this devastating storm, the landscape is still littered with fallen coconut trees and debris, and families are still coming to terms with their losses and having to start again.

Beng Poblete-Enriquez reports on efforts by the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to get these people back on their feet.
