Nearly 480,000 people sought asylum in industrialized countries last year according to a report launched on Thursday by the UN refugee agency (UNHCR).

Afghans and Syrians top the list of asylum seekers and UNHCR is urging countries to keep their borders open as more and more people flee their homelands due to war and new or ongoing conflicts.
