UN expert warns EU to modify food policy to protect developing countries

European legislators are expected to vote on the Common Agricultural Policy of the European Union, otherwise known as CAP which, was developed in the 1960s to support farmers in order to ensure food security for the European countries.

Now, according to Olivier De Schutter, UN Special Rapporteur on the right to food, CAP is having major impacts on developing countries in the area of human rights.

Gerry Adams asked Mr. De Schutter why the relationship between the EU and developing country farmers is problematic.
