South Sudan is marking its first anniversary on 9 July as the newest nation in the world and it has not been an easy year, according to the Secretary-General’s Special Representative for the country.

Hilde Johnson, who is also the head of the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) says the country is facing both major economic problems as well as continued disputes with its northern neighbour Sudan.

She tells Ari Gaitanis that it is now up to the government of South Sudan to deliver on promises it has made to its people as well as the international community to help out.
