A senior UN official is travelling to Colombia on Wednesday in efforts to combat impunity for crimes of sexual violence committed during the country’s armed conflict.

Margot Wallström, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for sexual violence, said she hopes to deepen dialogue and strengthen cooperation with the government during her four-day visit.

She will also meet with survivors of crimes such as rape, sexual torture, mutilation, forced prostitution and sexual slavery that took place during the decades of conflict.

Rocio Franco Riveros sat down with Ms. Wallström before she left on what will be her final mission for the United Nations.
