On 30 April the United Nations will celebrate the first International Jazz Day with a star studded musical concert.

UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock will be joined by Angelique Kidjo, Wynton Marsalis, Hugh Masekela, Shankar Mahadevan, and many more musicians for the concert in the UN General Assembly Hall.

There will also be events in Paris and New Orleans to celebrate the Day.

UNESCO says jazz is an important international art form for promoting peace, dialogue, diversity, and respect for human rights among other things and that is why it should be celebrated with its own day.
