Victims of Sierra Leone’s brutal civil war celebrated as the guilty verdict against Charles Taylor was announced on Thursday.

Many watched the proceedings live from the Netherlands on a monitor at the UN backed Special Court for Sierra Leone in Freetown.

In other parts of the country the court set up areas where residents heard the verdict over the radio.

Tens of thousands of people were killed, mutilated, raped, robbed and displaced in Sierra Leone during the decade long war.

Jabati Mambu, who as a teenager had his right arm hacked off by a machete watched from Freetown, Julie Walker that justice has been delivered.
