1.3 billion people in South-East Asia are at risk of malaria and the World Health Organization says it can only be controlled if all sections of society are involved.

Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected mosquitoes.

WHO says with an estimated 28 million cases last year resulting in 38,000 deaths, malaria remains a significant public health problem in South-East Asia.

The regional theme for World Malaria Day, which is 25 April is “Multi-Sectoral Partnerships: sustain gains, save lives, invest in malaria.”
