Young people are creative and enthusiastic agents of change energetically demonstrating their desire to tackle global challenges and make their own mark on history, says UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

His comments resonated on the day a young Japanese artist was presented a certificate and cheque by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for winning the United Nations “Art for Peace” contest.

The on-line contest was co-sponsored by the UN and the Harmony for Peace Foundation and ran from the 1st of February through the 30th of April 2012.

Seventeen-year old Haruka Shoji won first place in the oldest age group and Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon celebrated Haruka Shoji’s work.
