UN agency, Malaysia, convene expert meeting on real-time flight data monitoring

Some two months after a Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 vanished shortly after take-off from Kuala Lumpur, the Government-led, United Nations-supported effort to secure reforms in the way all commercial jetliners are tracked gathered industry leaders and aviation experts met recently in the Malaysian capital to weigh options on real-time tracking measures.

On World Telecommunication Day, UN spotlights broadband for sustainable development

With digital development now well recognized as a transformative tool to fast-track sustainable development, the United Nations is marking World Telecommunication and Information Society Day with calls on the global community to roll-out high-speed broadband networks, making digital communication affordable as well as universally accessible.
Minister for Communications and Multimedia of Malaysia Ahmad Shabery Cheek calls on the ITU to develop leading edge standards to facilitate the transmission of flight data in real time.

UN telecom head calls for real-time flight data in wake of Malaysian airline tragedy

In the wake of the mysterious disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 and the ongoing hunt for the plane, the head of the United Nations International Telecommunications Union (ITU) today committed the agency to the search for a real-time inflight communications system, drawing on new technology to help improve on the 50-year-old “black box” model.
