Threat of floods and landslides in Tajikistan prompts UN humanitarian appeal

The United Nations' humanitarian wing is urgently appealing for $1.4 million so that it can buy and pre-position emergency water, sanitation and cooking items for up to 1,500 households in Tajikistan, which faces the threat of floods and landslides after a severe winter across much of Central Asia.

Tajikistan and UN agency agree on deal to integrate Afghan refugees

About 1,000 Afghans who have been living in neighbouring Tajikistan for up to 20 years will be able to apply for permanent residency and citizenship under a cooperation agreement worked out by the United Nations refugee agency and the Tajik Government.

UN refugee chief to visit Tajikistan next week

The United Nations refugee chief heads to Tajikistan next week for a three-day visit to the Central Asian country, which is home to more than 1,700 refugees and asylum-seekers, mainly from Afghanistan.
