The top United Nations envoy in Timor-Leste today praised the handling of the ongoing case against a former interior minister who was convicted of arming civilians in the deadly violence that rocked the small South-East Asian country last year.
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today said that he was “greatly encouraged” by yesterday’s peaceful presidential run-off election in Timor-Leste, the tiny nation that gained independence from Indonesia in 2002.
The United Nations peacekeeping mission in Timor-Leste said that today’s presidential run-off election in the country which gained independence from Indonesia in 2002 proceeded smoothly and peacefully.
