Security Council lauds Pacific Forum's bid to restore peace in Solomon Islands

The members of the Security Council today lauded efforts by countries of the Pacific Islands Forum, especially Australia and New Zealand, for their efforts to restore peace in the Solomon Islands, scene of recent inter-island political and ethnic fighting, and called on all parties there to renounce the use of force to settle their differences.

Annan lauds regional effort to bring stability to Solomon Islands

United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan today commended countries in the Pacific Islands region for their collective support to restore law and order in the Solomon Islands and voiced hope that a prompt return to normalcy will facilitate a peace-building process.

UN sends disaster team to help Solomon Islands in cyclone's aftermath

Responding to the extensive damage caused by Cyclone Zoe late last month in the Solomon Islands, the United Nations deployed a disaster assistance and coordination team to that country today.
