Senior UN officials urge Brazzaville to halt expulsion of DR Congo nationals

Senior United Nations officials today demanded that Republic of the Congo immediately stop expelling citizens from the neighbouring Democratic Republic of the Congo, and called for an investigation into allegations of sexual violence and other human rights violations.

UN human rights office ‘disappointed’ by ruling in DR Congo mass rape trial

Disappointed by the ruling of a Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) military court which acquitted close to half of the 39 Congolese soldiers accused of mass rape in 2012, the United Nations Human Rights Office (OHCHR) said today the decision fell short of the expectations of the numerous victims and confirmed the shortcoming of the country’s justice system.

UN Mission helps rescue shipwrecked passengers in eastern DR Congo

At least one person died and 10 others are missing after a boat capsized in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the country (MONUSCO) reported today, announcing that its peacekeepers rushed to the scene of the accident and were able to rescue more than a dozen passengers.
