DR Congo: UN supporting probe as employee is implicated in mineral smuggling

The United Nations peacekeeping force in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) said today it is fully cooperating with the authorities there who are investigating an attempt by a local UN employee to smuggle about one ton of cassiterite ore from the country to neighbouring Rwanda.

Audit of DR Congo’s debt necessary for transparency, UN human rights expert says

A United Nations human rights expert today urged authorities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to undertake an audit of the country’s debt as part of a broader effort to improve transparency and accountability in the impoverished nation’s public sector.
