Ban names French judicial official to head up key UN counter-terrorism body

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today confirmed the appointment of French criminal justice veteran Jean-Paul Laborde as the new Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate (CTED), following the concurrence of the Security Council.

Independent UN rights expert urges more clarity on US counter-terrorism policies

An independent United Nations human rights expert today wrapped up his visit to Washington, DC by calling for more clarity on aspects of President Barack Obama’s speech last month on United States counter-terrorism policy, particularly on the use of drones.
