Ukraine: UN experts urge accountability for human rights violations by foreign fighters

Today in Geneva, the United Nations Working Group on mercenaries called on the Government of Ukraine to ensure accountability for human rights violations committed by foreign armed actors during the conflict that has plagued the country since 2014.

Ukraine: UN calls on all parties to ensure access to safe drinking water in eastern region

Concerned about the continuing impact of the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine on civilians, the United Nations today called on all parties to ensure access to safe water in Donetsk, after security concerns forced the evacuation of staff from a water treatment facility that serves thousands of people in the area.

Ukraine: growing despair among over three million civilians in conflict zone – UN report

Despite a decrease in the number of civilian casualties in the east of Ukraine over the past few months, a new United Nations report shows that the conflict is severely impacting on the daily life of civilians, with a growing sense of despair and isolation affecting those living in the conflict zone, especially in the areas controlled by the armed groups.
Gianni Magazzeni presented the UN Human Rights Office report into Ukraine saying that he feared the worst for those in pre-trial detention in the east.
