As challenges mount for displaced in eastern Ukraine, UN agency ramps up food voucher plan

Key steps have been taken recently to deliver food vouchers to some 10,000 internally displaced people in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) reported today, while underscoring that ensuring access to food in the country’s crisis-gripped eastern region remains a “priority concern.”

In latest report, UN rights office says nearly 1,000 dead amid shaky Ukraine ceasefire

Almost 1,000 people have been killed in Ukraine since a tenuous ceasefire was established there in early September amid efforts to end the violence between armed rebel groups and the Government, the United Nations Human Rights Office (OHCHR) said today as it released its latest report on the situation in the country.

Ceasefire in Ukraine under ‘continuous, serious strain,’ UN official warns

Prevailing hostilities in Ukraine in recent days are putting the ceasefire agreed to in September under “continuous and serious strain,” a senior United Nations political official told the Security Council today, warning against the possibility of a return to full-scale fighting despite prospects of hope offered by recent parliamentary elections.

Two deadly attacks on children in Ukraine and Syria on the same day this week serve as a “horrific reminder” of the terrible price youngsters are paying in these brutal wars, the United Nations children's agency said today as it urged all conflict parties to keep children out of harm's way.
