E-government can help meet globalization's challenges, UN-backed forum says

Governments at all stages of development face the challenges of 21st century globalization, which make "improved governance and public administration" necessary preconditions for sustainable development, the Fifth Global Forum on Re-inventing Government, supported by the United Nations, declared today.

About 91 per cent of Member States are installing and using Internet services, but "online government" has raised questions of cost-effectiveness in developed and developing countries, according to a United Nations study released today.
