Torture and abuse may be banned, but eradication a long way off – UN rights expert

“The world is still plagued by torture” and there is an increasing acceptance of the idea” that such an “abhorrent practice should be permissible in certain circumstances, or against certain groups”.  That is what UN Special Rapporteur on torture Professor Nils Melzer told the United Nations General Assembly this week. Professor Melzer spoke with UN News's Lidiya Loukinykh.
