UN expert warns against abuse of solitary confinement in the Americas

The United Nations expert on torture has called on the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights to investigate the practise of solitary confinement and its harmful effects in the Americas, particularly in Latin America, and urged stronger regulation of its use.

Independent UN expert urges release of inquiry findings on CIA interrogation practices

A United Nations independent expert today urged the Governments of the United States and the United Kingdom to release the findings of confidential inquiries into the detention and interrogation practices of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) during the administration of President George W. Health care can be form of torture in certain cases, says UN human rights expert

An independent United Nations human rights expert today unveiled a new report in which he calls for an international debate on abuses of patients under medical supervision ranging from compulsory detention of drug users in rehabilitation centres to refusal of treatment for HIV-positive patients.
