80 adolescents a day will still die of AIDS by 2030, despite slowdown in epidemic

By 2030, around 80 adolescents will be dying of AIDS every day if “we don’t accelerate progress in preventing transmission,” the head of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said on Thursday.

Mandisa Dukashe and her family live in Eastern Cape, South Africa. Mandisa is a trained nurse and works in the response to HIV to ensure quality control in health-care settings. She is living with HIV and encourages people to get tested for HIV. Her husband and two daughters are all HIV-negative.

To win combat against HIV worldwide, ‘knowledge is power’, says UNAIDS report

Ahead of World AIDS Day, marked every year on 1 December, the United Nations issued a report on Thursday that highlights the critical importance of scaling up HIV testing worldwide. Titled Knowledge is Power, it presents evidence on progress made against AIDS thanks to early detection and treatment and calls on countries to step up their efforts.
