New UN-backed body seeks to improve legal environment for tackling AIDS

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) today launched the Global Commission on HIV and the Law, which will highlight the role played by the legal environment in facilitating or hindering universal access to prevention, treatment, care and support.

World Cup teams back UN appeal to keep mothers healthy and babies free of HIV

Nine teams that will compete in the soccer World Cup kicking off in South Africa later this week are supporting a United Nations-backed global campaign whose goals are to keep mothers infected with HIV/AIDS healthy and to prevent their babies from becoming infected.

Scottish singer, songwriter and women’s activist Annie Lennox will use her voice to speak out for women and girls affected by HIV in her new role as International Goodwill Ambassador for the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).
