UN pledges support to Afghan authorities to complete election audit

The United Nations today pledged to redouble its support to the Afghan electoral authorities to help expedite the completion of a thorough and credible audit of the presidential run-off in the wake of the decision of one of the candidates to halt participation in the process.

Afghanistan: UN mission concerned over acts of intimidation against journalist

The United Nations mission in Afghanistan today expressed its concern about the acts of intimidation against New York Times reporter Matthew Rosenberg, who yesterday was banned from leaving the country and told that he was being investigated for an article he had written.

Afghan presidential candidates agree to political deal, UN mission confirms

Afghanistan: UN envoy extends condolences after deadly attack

A “tragedy” is how the top United Nations official in Afghanistan summed up an attack on international forces today outside of Kabul in which a man wearing an Afghan military uniform reportedly gunned down at least 15 troops, including a high-ranking officer.
The Independent Election Commission (IEC) of Afghanistan continued with the audit process on the results from the country’s Presidential election run-off held on 14 June 2014.
