Top UN rights experts appealed on Thursday for all governments to ensure that victims of torture receive the rehabilitation services they need, along with guarantees that those who help them do not suffer reprisals.
The right of torture victims to seek treatment for the trauma they have experienced is "often neglected," according to experts who work with these people.
They say survivors sometimes find it hard to get help because some countries deny that they are torturing their citizens.
Representatives from UN Member States and non-governmental organizations discussed the obligation to assist torture victims at a recent event in Geneva.
