Condemning today’s terrorist attack in the Egyptian city of al-Arish, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called for an overall approach to preventing and countering terrorism, with full respect for human rights and refugee law.

Condemning the “horrific” terrorist attack at the Radisson hotel in Bamako which killed an unknown number of civilians and injured many more, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has noted that the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) has been assisting the authorities in the handling of this crisis.

Condemning in the strongest terms the ‘heinous and cowardly’ murder of Chinese citizen, Fan Jinghui, and Norwegian citizen, Ole Johan Grimsgaard-Ofstad, by the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL), the members of the United Nations Security Council today emphasized that such continued acts of barbarism “do not intimidate them, but rather stiffen their resolve.”
