UN health agency reports first day with no SARS death in nearly 10 weeks

The United Nations health agency today reported the first day with no new SARS deaths in nearly 10 weeks – since 28 March when the cumulative totals stood at 1,485 cases and 53 deaths from the newly emergent Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.

With the development of commercial diagnostic tests for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) progressing slower than initially hoped, the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) said its network of laboratories are working to expedite the process by providing critical specimen to scientists.
