Road safety experts seek to address rising toll of traffic deaths – WHO

With more than two people dying each minute from traffic accidents, representatives from more than 20 of the world's leading road safety organizations are gathering for the first time to embark on a global initiative to stem the rising toll of injuries and fatalities caused by collisions on the road, the United Nations health agency said today.

In a report issued ahead of the upcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly, Secretary-General Kofi Annan recommends that the UN's chief legislative body call on Member States to stimulate a new level of commitment in tackling the problem of road traffic injuries, projected to rank third among causes of death and disability by 2020.
