Hate speech and violence still rising against Roma despite recognition gains, says rights expert

More must be done to tackle online hate speech against minorities including the Roma and Sinti, who continue to be scapegoated for spreading the COVID-19 virus, a leading rights expert said on Wednesday.

UNAMID, in collaboration with the North Darfur Committee on Women, organised an open day session on UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security in North Darfur.

‘Time for justice for Roma’, Senior expert urges on Holocaust Remembrance Day

Dan Pavel Doghi, Senior Adviser on Roma and Sinti issues for the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) says the Roma people should finally receive the justice they deserve.  Mr. Doghi attended a United Nations Holocaust Memorial event at UN Headquarters in New York where he spoke about the importance of education to help fight racism and discrimination against vulnerable minorities. 

UN News’s Ana Carmo started by asking him about the fate of the Roma under the Nazi regime.
