UN ecological agency signs accord to help make Beijing Olympics greenest ever

In a new bid to slash ecological damage from major world sporting events, the United Nations environmental agency today signed an agreement to make the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games the greenest ever, from cutting from air, water and noise pollution to transport, landscaping and disposal of solid waste.

UN environmental agency reports plans for ‘green’ Winter Olympics next year

As part of its efforts to encourage eco-friendly sporting events, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) today reported a raft of measures to cut greenhouse emissions and water usage at next year’s winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, as well as an upcoming agreement for the 2008 summer games in Beijing.

General Assembly calls for international truce during 2006 Olympic Games

The United Nations General Assembly today unanimously adopted a resolution urging all countries to observe the Olympic Truce during the XX Olympic Winter Games, to be held in Turin, Italy, in February 2006.
