A severe budget gap is hampering the United Nations “oil-for-food” programme, which allows Baghdad to use a portion of its crude revenues to purchase humanitarian relief, the UN official in charge of the operation told the Security Council today.
Following months of sluggish crude exports under the United Nations humanitarian “oil-for-food” programme for Iraq, Baghdad last week sold 13.3 million barrels, the UN office running the effort announced today.
