Act now to slow climate change and protect the planet, urges UN chief

The ozone layer – a fragile shield of gas that protects the Earth from the harmful rays of the sun – is “on the road to recovery”, the UN chief said on Thursday in his message for the World Ozone Day.

Ozone on track to heal completely in our lifetime, UN environment agency declares on World Day.

At the current momentum, scientists predict the planet’s protective shield of gas - or ozone layer as we know it - will be completely healed as far as some regions of the planet are concerned, by the 2030’s, the UN’s environmental agency (UNEP) revealed on Monday.

Food is distributed to participants of the World Food Programme’s (WFP) Food Assistance for Assets (FFA) program in Warrap State, South Sudan. In Warrap State WFP is currently assisting 200,000 beneficiaries under the FFA Program. 25 July 2018.
