No “band-aid” for world’s problems

New development goals agreed by the international community seek to get to the root of the world’s problems rather than just, in the words of a senior UN official, put a band-aid on them.

The Sustainable Development Goals, which are due to be endorsed by world leaders at the United Nations in September, replace the anti-poverty Millennium Development Goals which expire at the end of 2015.

Trillions needed for new development agenda

Trillions of dollars may be needed to finance a new global development agenda, a senior UN official has said.

In September, the international community is due to meet in New York to decide on the so-called Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs.

They will replace the Millennium Development Goals which are due to expire at the end of this year.
