With xenophobia, prejudice, and hate speech on the rise, the UN community gathered in the General Assembly Hall on Wednesday to call for action to root out racism and discrimination across the world.
The head of UN refugee agency UNHCR, spoke out on Monday against the “ugly reality” that some refugees fleeing across the Ukraine border, and Third Country Nationals, have been subjected to racism and discrimination.
Racism continues to poison institutions, social structures, and everyday life across all societies, the UN chief said on Friday at a dedicated meeting against what he referred to as a catalyst that “normalizes hate, denies dignity, and spurs violence”.

Governments around the world are being urged to take action to stop the fear and misinformation about minorities and migrants that is inciting racial hatred and profiling.
The call was made by UN human rights experts on the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, observed annually on 21March.
