UN highlights need to solve growing burden of forcibly displaced Africans

With 24.2 million Africans forced from their homes in 2017  ̶  4.6 million more than the previous year  ̶  the UN is hosting a three-day event at UN headquarters, focusing on finding durable solutions to the problem, which is a growing burden on the continent’s economy, environment and communities which host those displaced. 

Violence, displacement continue, as 29 babies die of cold in northeast Syria camp

The World Health Organization (WHO) says it’s extremely concerned about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Al-Hol camp in Syria’s Al-Hasakeh Governorate, where 11 infants are reported to have died due to cold, in the past two days alone.  Abdelmonem Makki spoke to WHO representative in Syria, Elizabeth Hoff, who said staff in the camp were “working round the clock”, to try and prevent further tragic loss of life, amidst desperate conditions.

UN Mission in Darfur, important ‘source of protection’ to displaced and civilians of Golo: rights chief
