UN emergency chief stresses need for long-term aid for Philippines typhoon victims

As food aid reached nearly 2.7 million survivors of Typhoon Haiyan, which devastated the central Philippines earlier this month, the top United Nations emergency relief official warned today that millions of people left without homes will require substantial longer-term support.
The Emergency Telecommunications Cluster (ETC), which works to provide communications services for all humanitarian workers, establishes connectivity at Tacloban town hall in the Philippines.

Typhoon Haiyan: UN agency donates satellite phones, laptops to Philippines relief effort

With all manner of aid beginning to make its way to victims of Typhoon Haiyan, the United Nations telecommunications agency has today stepped in to provide equipment such as satellite phones and laptops to the World Health Organization (WHO) and Philippines Government crisis response units.

The United Nations is ramping up relief operations in the Philippines as Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon warned a climate conference today that the deadly devastation wrought by Typhoon Haiyan proves that the world must act now to counter the wrath of a warming planet.

Typhoon Haiyan wake-up call to speed up climate control efforts – Ban

Typhoon Haiyan, which devastated the Philippines a week ago, is a wake-up call for the international community to speed up efforts to fight climate change, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon warned today, as latest estimates put the total of those affected at nearly 13 million, including over 4 million displaced and 2.5 million in need of food aid.
