‘We have an obligation to solve the hunger problem’: award-winning chef Andrew Zimmern  

Globally, enough food is produced to feed the world’s seven billion people, and yet 811 million still go to bed hungry each night.  

Award-winning chef and TV personality Andrew Zimmern was recently named a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), expanding his global advocacy to fight hunger and food waste around the world.

Diplomats help build buzz over World Bee Day

There’s never been a time when the pollinating power of the lowly honey bee has been more important to the planet than now.

That’s the view of some diplomats at UN Headquarters in New York who are making the case for giving bees their own official international day.

Ambassador Darja Bavdaz Kuret of Slovenia, argues that we need bees to cope with many of the global challenges laid out in the Sustainable Development Goals, such as hunger and biodiversity.

Yet, she says they are under threat like never before, due to climate change and pesticides.

New UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador will advocate for young refugees

A teenage refugee from Syria will use her role as Goodwill Ambassador with the UN children’s agency, UNICEF, to urge world leaders to stand with children uprooted by war.

Muzoon Almellehan, 19, is the youngest person and the first official refugee, ever to be appointed to the position.

Global displacement reached a record high last year, with more than 65 million people forced to flee their homes due to war, violence and persecution.
