UN seeks nearly $275 million in food and emergency aid for Ethiopia next year

The United Nations, Ethiopia and their humanitarian partners today appealed for more than 387,000 tons of food worth some $159 million for some 2.2 million needy people there, and a further $112 million of other assistance to meet emergency needs next year.

UN Security Council welcomes new moves towards peace on Eritrean-Ethiopian border

Stressing the importance of demarcating a final acceptable border between two Horn of Africa countries, the United Nations Security Council today said it was encouraged by Ethiopia's announcement that it has a new peace plan and by Eritrea's continued acceptance of an independent Boundary Commission's decision on the frontier as binding.

After receiving a new peace plan put forward last month by Ethiopia that aims to end the country's long-running dispute with Eritrea, United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan today welcomed any move that might help solidify relations between the two Horn of Africa neighbours.
