Peng Liyuan, an internationally renowned musician and First Lady of China, has been named by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a Special Envoy for the Advancement of Girls’ and Women’s Education.

Some 125 million school children around the world are unable to read a single sentence, even after four years of attendance – a waste of $129 billion a year – a United Nations report warned today, calling on Governments to draft the best teachers to teach the most underprivileged if the goal of universal education is ever to be reached.

Fashionistas descended on the world body’s iconic New York Headquarters recently for the filming of the season finale of “Project Runway All Stars,” – which airs tonight on Lifetime – where three finalists showcase original clothing lines inspired by their family heritages.
