Hurricane Katrina’s ‘true legacy’ was to spur disaster risk management – senior UN official

The top United Nations disaster resilience official today said on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina that the ‘true legacy’ of the costliest United States hurricane disaster, which devastated New Orleans and claimed more than 1,800 lives, was to raise the bar for disaster risk management worldwide.

Myanmar battles deadly flooding

Monsoon flooding in Myanmar has killed nearly 70 people and affected more than 250,000, the United Nations said on Wednesday.

UN agencies and their partners have been assisting the country in responding to the disaster.
